cyberthug Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 hey all.+++should this post be moved to another forum? unattended?+++ [jus' checkin']I've finally managed to get the color's correctly displaced in my oemkrnl.exe file, but now, for some reason, it hangs after scrolling the proress bar about 2 times..This is the last thing pending on my windows cd, and it's really beginning to p*** me off! lol.The size has reacheed 702MB and am trying my best to not change any more things!Could somebody PLEASE help me with this? If u know how to easily make one with a problem, would you be willing to make it for me?OR if anyone know's how to fix this, it'd be much appreciated.more info: i'm using boot editor, as it's easier dealing with the color palette.I'm leaving this country [with high speed internet] to a place that only has 33.6kbps which usually doesn't even run! I will be leaving in a week or two. So if someone could help me as fast as possible, it'd be the best.thanks alot!-Cyberthug.

Alanoll Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 use booteditor to add your images and pallete as well. Then take it's kernel file.If it freezes, it coudl also be that you're taking the WRONG kernel file. ie. you're using the multikernel for a single kernel system (P4's with hyperthreading use the multikernel, where as AMDs and virtual machines do not)
cyberthug Posted December 5, 2004 Author Posted December 5, 2004 i'm pretty sure it's the right kernel file. yes, my comp has hyperthreading.i'm using the same windowsXP that i have installed on my machine to make my unattended cd.i'm taking my ntosknrl.exe from my system32\ and using it with boot editor. testing under VMware (which does not support hyperthreading). but it still hangs half way.I downloaded a modded ntoskrrl for sp2 (same build as mine) from themexp.org, loaded it into boot editor, placed my bmp into it, and it WORKS!the one that works, is slightl smaller in size then the one from my system32 directory!! i have no idea what's happening!!!!anyone got an explaination!?!?another question... how do ii use boott editor to make a dual kernel boot up logo?and how do i implement it using regkeys or whatever.thanx.
discarnet Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 had this problem myselftry modifypf -c comand on the file it should correct the headertry this forumboot screen forumjust about every problem is discused here
Alanoll Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Alright, I'm about to close this thread for not searching...The first kernel you created is a dual processor kernel. Open up the properties of it, and check the Original Filename. If it ends in os.exe it's the single kernel, it it's mp.exe it's the multi kernel. Now the reason as for WHY ti doesn't work in VMware is simple, and YOU ALREADY SAID IT. USE SOME LOGIC. VMware emulates a SINGLE PROCESSOR system, and you're trying to use a MULTIPROCESSOR KERNEL. The two are NOT COMPATIBLE.Now as for selecting the proper one, there is a post by ME in the Customizing thread about selecting the proper kernel.http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=9878
cyberthug Posted December 9, 2004 Author Posted December 9, 2004 alanoll.. sad to see i got ya p***ed off! lol.well.. dunno if u misunderstood, or i didn't say it right.I haven't got to the part of the multiprossesor yet.i've been trying ntoskrnl.exe (single processor) which was really giving me trouble. i have searched, read tutorials, tried to apply them, nothing worked.BUT, i finally managed to get the single processor kernel working.I couldn't find enuf info on how to usee boot editor to get the multiprocessor kernel.I KNOW that it won't work in VMware, and am pretty sure i didn't say so. thanks for the links ppl.
