December 1, 200421 yr Is there a way to make the setup process prompt for the key and nothing else? My problem is that I have bunches of XP keys and no volume license...that would be too easy.
December 1, 200421 yr Author Just so I'm clear. Ideally I'm looking for something like Dell and the other manufacturers do. After the machine boots it prompts for a CD Key.
December 1, 200421 yr I would say remove the key from the winnt.sif but what would happen is it would ask for the key then install windows..
December 1, 200421 yr Author That's fine too. I intrepreted the screenshots as the Key was required. Thanks for the tip!
December 1, 200421 yr Bi0haZarD gave the solution. But if you want this:Ideally I'm looking for something like Dell and the other manufacturers do. After the machine boots it prompts for a CD Key.You need something called SysPrep - it will basically run the setup, then package your system once again - so that you can enter in the key (and whatever else you choose). The intention behind SysPrep being that windows is already setup and installed on the system - it is a post-install per-PC configuration tool. Dell and such manufacturers use sysprep - try searching the forum for more info on it.
December 2, 200421 yr Sysprep works great.I believe this is the link you're looking for to download it...http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en
December 2, 200421 yr I believe this is the link you're looking for to download it...You can also find an older version (non-SP2) of it right on your WinXP CD in "\SUPPORT\TOOLS\deploy.cab".
