my PC with an OS XP Pro has SP2 installed and some other updates and local softwares; when i come to use such programs that scans or downloads files such as AVG scanning your harddrive or downloading a large virus database my computer freezes and nothing else i cud do to make it work than reboot and watch my PC perform scandisk for a long time. what should i do please help me my PC is sharing an internet connection (DSL) and i dont want others to be disconnected especially when someone is downloading... thanks


You should also setup Performance Monitor to watch the CPU, Memory, Disk I/O etc. to see what is going on.

You may also want to check out Process Explorer from Systernals.com to monitor processes running on your PC.

After you ID the process causing high utilization you can take steps to correct the problem.
