mikeintx45 Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 After installing Win XP Pro I discovered that my C:\ Drive jumper was set to cable select and the root drive is now drive E:\ and I can't change it in the OS. Is therea way to change this to C: drive? As i don't really want to start over!! And i really need it to be assigned as C:TY
Noise Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Nope, you need to start over. But rest assured, you're not alone. many of us have done this same thing.
mikeintx45 Posted November 8, 2004 Author Posted November 8, 2004 TY, Monday Morning is starting to look like a rerun!
Weed Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 partition magic does have an utility called "drive remap"it changes the drive letter and all the regentries and all files that contains something with "E:\"but not sure if windows will run stable
mikeintx45 Posted November 8, 2004 Author Posted November 8, 2004 I have PM and was thinking about trying it but then again, thinking is not my strong point!!!
Noise Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 PM cant change boot (%SystemRoot%) drive letters. Even if they said they could I wouldn't trust it. There are too many binary registry keys and settings all over the place that are hard-coded. PM would never catch them all. if you tried it may seem to work off the bat, but I guarentee you'll run into problems in the long run.just rebuild it, it really is safer, and in the end it's easier.
