redder Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 I'm running a nLited version of windows xp sp2, i didnt take any of the services off because i need this feature, a friend of mine and me, we were trying to see if remote assistance works, when i press in the menu ask for remote assistance, nothing happens. He has a fresh install of XP, then updated to SP2, we kinda started to have this problem once SP2 came out, could it be that SP2 completly blocks the remote assitance feature? I need help please
morellana Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 check if it's enabled in the remote tab in the system properties and check if port 3389 tcp is open
redder Posted October 24, 2004 Author Posted October 24, 2004 Yes Remote Assistance tab is enabled, every service associated to Remote Assistance are running, either on manual or automatic, we both have the firewall on the background but it is disabled, we checked for that port you said, and it doesnt show on the open ports, what do i have to do to enable it if it is closed? i removed Windows Firewall with nlite when i installed it, could it have anything to do with that?
totoymola Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 If you are using a router, make sure that you forward the ports on your router too. And you must use your private IP.If you are using the invite file, edit the invite with notepad, and replace the dummy IP to your real IP.Check this out: http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-6263-5195001-1.htmlThanks to Astalavista for this.
