Detecting connection type

Maybe a silly question but here goes.......

When a someone vists a website, is it possible to detect what type of internet connection (dial up or broadband) using either javascript or html?? I would like to be able to automatically divert a user when they enter the index page to either a narrowband (dial up) content or broadband content page.

If it is a silly one guys just say so.....
