WDGC Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 HP computer, about 3 years old, purchased new, Windows XP Home Edition pre-installed, HP recovery partition and HP recovery discs. 2 programs, Everest vers. 1.10 and Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder v1.41, each show the same XP product key, however, it is different from the product key appearing on the COA sticker. If OS reactivation is ever required which product key should be used?
FAT64 Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Dunno, but you're not alone. When I had XP Home, the CD Key on the Sticker on the PC was different to that reported by such programs as Keyfinder. Never did figure that one out.
codejunkie Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 My Fujitsu is the same, the so called recovery disk must be a Corp as it doesnt need activation at all! been running it for months with it with out needing to be activated
gamehead200 Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 This is the same with Dells... When you buy the computer, the Dells come pre-activated with a "default" product key Dell uses to activate their machines . The sticker on the computer is only there so that if you need to reinstall your version of XP, its there and will be activated through Microsoft...Its confusing... I know...
