XP Pro Repair

What turns off the option in XP Setup to repair an existing version of XP? This is right before you would pick the partition to install on.

If you have a winnt.sif with OEMPreinstall=Yes, then you will not get an option to repair the install.

Because my early CDs which did not have OEMpreinstall enabled at all, also offer no repair option. I guess simply having a winnt.sif (i.e., using unattended install methods) gets the setup to conclude that you don't need repair functionality.

You need to make a new CD with normal files - no unattended processes used - to be able to get to use "repair" option.

I hadn't tried with a winnt.sif set to OEMPreinstall=No - for what I was doing, the OEMPreinstall was the only reason I needed the winnt.sif - so you could be right.

Do we realy loose the option of repair for windows, when we put the XP CD in?

If so, why?

what if theunattended installation is not automatic but only gives the defaults to the user?

If you want to know, give it a try. All you need is an iso and a virtual machine (e.g. MS VirtualPC or VMWare Virtual Machine)
