Astalavista Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Does anyone know a site that can give instructions on how to do an unattended install of linux. for a friend of mine.thanks
buletov Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 this is msfn, aka microsoft software forum network.and you know the microsoft's opinion on an open source software.there are many distributions on linux, you should try linux dedicated websites for that.
prathapml Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 and you know the microsoft's opinion on an open source software.well, that's MS - we aren't fanatics against open source, and we don't bad-mouth them.MSFN just has a different "area of focus" which happens to NOT be linux, that's all. We have no special enmity towards it.@AstalavistaIf this is for RedHat or Fedora distributions (of linux), then you can do it unattended by using what is called "kick-start" configuration. And then you specify that file to be used from floppy to the anaconda setup routine (ks=/dev/flp0/config.ks).Or, you can go the whole hog, and pick-up the Anaconda installer's sources (on the CD4 of fedora Core 2) and modify to suit your settings and add/remove packages - and make it fully silent - and compile it.But one thing to consider is - if you're not familiar with linux and its setup, its going to be fruit-less to try this (not trying to dis-courage you, just giving a caution to save you weeks of time).BTW, this topic does not belong in"Unattended Windows"!*moved to general discussion
