Missing or Corrupted File on Boot

Recommended Posts

Posted

I've been having this problem off and on for the past year or so with my XP machine. Sometimes when I boot i get an error message that says:

"/system32/ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt. Please reinstall this file."

I can get this message a whole bunch of times. It forces me to reboot. And sometimes I can get XP to load and there are no problems. Also, somstimes I get the error:

"Disk read error.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart"

I dont know why this problem occurs. Sometimes I need to reinstall windows. Sometimes I can just restart the machine a whole ton of times and it will work. Anyway, the machine is a custom built one. Here are my specs,

MoBo: N-force 2

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2600+

Ram: 2x 512 MB DDR

Graphics card:Nforce FX 5700 Ultra 128 MB

OS: Win XP Pro SP 1

Any help would be great.
