better to install some programs before others?

Featured Replies

Hi I was wondering if it was mabye better to install some programs before other programs? Like maybe bigger programs first or maybe last. Right now I have .net install first and antivirus last. the stuff in the middle is just there. I was wondering if there were any thoughts on this.

Yes, that's the right way.

Many ppl would do it like this:

The 2 things as mentioned in the quote are good. Then the big apps install, then the utils, then the direct-extraction SFXes, then the registry tweaks, then the clean-up!

Also, some progs (like WinXP Manager) requires .Net Framework to be installed first.

hehe :D install Msn Messenger before Msg Plus! :o i dont think it will the other way..

I want to bump this, in the hopes of a more clear answer...

Which programs should be first? second? middle? last?

Could someone make a list? (ex: antivirus, word, spyware stuff, etc.)

@a06lp

You're about to have a good list. Just keep people posting their preferences.

I hear ya, but I don't see the posts... :unsure:

Also, I don't really want preferences. I want to know, in terms of stability, etc. what is the PROPER order to install?

Has microsoft ever spoken about this?

would you do the registry tweaks at the beginning or at the end?

I have a tweak to change my special folders some go to a network computer like 'My Documents' music and others are on my computer like 'Desktop' and 'Favorites'
