epheterson Posted September 2, 2002 Posted September 2, 2002 I got my hands on an XP SP1 file, i installed it, everything went nice and dandy and then when I booted it gave me two errors following the boot screen 1: ----------------------------------------------------- |_winlogon.exe - Entry Point not found_____________X_| The procedure entry point AssocIsDangerous could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll. OK followed by a message saying: The logon user interface DLL msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator to replace the DLL, or restore the original DLL. _________ |Restart| --------- I've tried all i can, the revert to last working setting, booting in safe mode, EVERYTHING. at this point all i care to do is back-up my files and re-install windows. The problem is backing up my files. does anybody have an idea as to how i can access my C drive then copy it using either USB or Firewire to my external drive? all feedback is HIGHLY appreciated. Thank You
FthrJACK Posted September 2, 2002 Posted September 2, 2002 hi, welcome to the board.Try this before you format and destroy all your data.put your windows XP cd in the drive and boot the pc, hold F8 while the pc boots and go into the repair console.type in sfc /scannowthen follow the on screen dialogue from there, reboot when done it should boot up at least and give you chance to get your data backed up (if you need to, it may fix it perfectly)hope this helps. by the way, did you select the option to be able to uninstall SP1 when you installed it? hope so, remove it in add remove and try again, or try another SP1 file, the file should be 133 MB (140,440,152 bytes) in size in its exe format, and file version 1.16.121.0also did you check Here ?
epheterson Posted September 2, 2002 Author Posted September 2, 2002 i cant boot past my logon screen, thats where the errors come up. the only option i have is to restart. and my XP CD is not working as a boot disk, what should i do??
FthrJACK Posted September 2, 2002 Posted September 2, 2002 is the CD drive enabled as first boot device in your BIOS?also, you dont need to get to the boot screen, just slightly after the BIOS screens and XP will go to the "safe mode options" window if you hold down F8.if you still cant get your Cd to boot i suggest going to the Microsoft site and downloading the boot floppies and using them.
epheterson Posted September 2, 2002 Author Posted September 2, 2002 u see, i have a bootleg XP CD, i have the option to boot from my CD drive when i start up, but theres no boot files on my CD. im trying something now that i HOPE works. im making a bootable XP CD.
Aaron Posted September 7, 2002 Posted September 7, 2002 The reason why this errors is because you are using an edited msgina.dll file. I assumed you may have reshacked it to change the graphics on the Switch User/ Log Off window.Simply restore the original msgina.dll file and try to install SP1 again.
