whats a XP SP2 bug?!?

recently my 3-years-old computer got a big problem,when i used to get in to Windows XP desktop,it just hang it right there,then it will auto restart.it happen almost very time i start my computer.so with some common sense,i thaught that it is time for a format and reinstall XP,but strange phenomena still happen,it hang again whenever i start my newly installed XP,but now with some hint,its reported i had a XP SP2 bug in my computer,but problem is,how the hell this bug came in my computer as i havn't even online after my reinstall and didn't updated my XP since last year?is it true that this bug is the main factor to my computer problem?what should i do?please help..... :(

Where did your SP2 upgrade come from? Did you get it from microsoft? If all else fails, try and order the cd from microsoft. You say you reformated and still has the same problem with booting? It freezes? It stops responding entirely? How old is the machine and how much memory do you have in this machine? Some mother boards are having problems with sp2 and I have not read anywhere here where there is a bug in sp2 if I am understanding you correctly, as your speaking of it as if it were a virus or intrussion.

More information is needed to determine (if that is possible at least) what is going on, could also be a bad boot sector or hardrive failure or any number of things happening.
