Jotnar Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Is anyone having the error "installshield script runtime could not be installed" with some installshield packages in WinXP w/ SP2? We have some in-house software that is packaged w Installshield and for whatever reason it simply won't install on the XPSP2 machine we have. Fresh install w/ SP2 slipstreamed and only Visual Studio.Net 2003 on the machine. I've read/tried what I could find on the net (unregistering/reregistering msiexec, making sure c:\Windows\Installer is not read-only), but nothing seems to help the issue. I'm going to reinstall the system today to see if it was maybe a glitch, but I figured I'd ask here first and see if anyone had any ideas.Cheers
Jotnar Posted October 6, 2004 Author Posted October 6, 2004 Finally figured out what was killing the installshield install (and also msi based installs as it turns out). It was a few lines I had in my security templates. Apparently I didn't catch the part in the "Whats changed in SP2" readme that said the RPC service doesn't run under the SYSTEM account anymore. The have it running under the NETWORK SERVICE account (this is a good thing as it limits access). My templates would set security on the RPC service (rpcss) and unfortunately NETWORK SERVICE was not one that was allowed to access it (nor can I seem to add it either). I removed those lines and BAM! I can install stuff again. Something I did in the User Rights section was also making my network connections not show up (they existed, you just couldn't see/change them in the network properties, yet you could change them in netsh) but I seemed to have fixed that by removing some seemingly generic entries from the template. Maybe others will find this info useful.Cheers
expertcomp69 Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Jotnar,I am having a problem that may be related to the one you described. The message i get is "Windows could not load the installer for image" every time windows starts and it attempts to load the scanner drivers attached to my HP Officejet 7130 all-in-one. Also if i have either one of my usb web cams plugged in. After clicking OK it attempts to locate the drivers but will not load them. I have the latest cd from HP and have downloaded the latest drivers for each webcam I own with no luck. I wonder if it is a USB problem since they are all connected to USB ports, which my computer has six of. I think I will attempt to use a hub and see if this might correct the problem. Feel free to email me with any ideas. Thnx expertcomp69
Bumpa Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 expertcomp69Glad to see a current post. I'm having the same problems. Did you try as Jotnar suggested or have you made any other progress. I have been running sp2 since on this system for about a year without a problem.
expertcomp69 Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 Unf***ingbelievable, I have been dealing with this problem for 6 Months. I had ordered the new CD from HP for my HP OfficeJet 7130xi, and tried to uninstall and reinstall according to the setup chart, except, during this method of installation, by default I suppose, Win XPSP2 loads the DOT_4 printing support for ieee1284 only. Only when I uninstalled the printer completely, unplugged the USB cable, turned the unit back on to use copier, forgot it was uninstalled, tried to print from web, was told I don't have a printer, plugged in USB, got option to install IEEE1284 DOT_4 or USB Printer support, was I able to load all the Software and now I can use my scanner again, as well as My Webcams. So many wasted hours(actually days/weeks/nights) for trying to follow setup chart to the letter. Microsoft or HP couldn't or Didn't tell me why I was getting the Error Message, much less how to solve the problem. In fact, this site is the closest I came to finding the same error message on the internet period. I am a happy camper today. Thanks for your replyies and attempt to help. Anything I can help you with, feel free to ask. Sincerely Marty expertcomp69@yahoo.com http://www.ateasecomputing.com/homepage.html
