search problems

Did a reformat earlier this week and installed sp2. Everything worked flawlessly but yesterday I tried to search for a file, i.e. Start menu, Search, and I found that it wasn't working. This is the first time that I have used this feature with this installation.

Is this just a glitch in my system or are other people having a similar problem? If it is just my system is there a way of fixing it? I don't use search much but it does come in handy from time to time, and I don't want to reformat again.
