*sigh* IDE ATA controller cards...

it seem that if i have a DE ATA controller card from promise i should only have them connected to that card if they're formatted with it, under say winxp

but if i later move those drives to another controller card under win2k this time then the drive starts having problems, this has happened to me a few times now, should i only have a hdd thats formatted in a system kept in that system unless reformated later in a newer system?

partition magic 8 has had problems when ive done this, and windows has several times done inconsistency checks (and deleted) countless gigs.

any experience in this matter?
