Hey all

I have a WinXP Home user that gets an error msg on startup that states (roughly):

Windows cannot find the following file or it may be corrupt:

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file using recovery console ...blah blah blah

When I run setup and attempt to run the Emergency Recovery, setup doesn't find the current Windows installation. So I go into Recovery console and I have run a chkdsk from there and also checked the bootcfg, and alls good. Now what I want to do is copy the previously specified file to the correct place. How do I do that? Even better would be if you guys can explain how I can do a basic copy of all necessary files without having to re-install windows.

Boot from your CD and select the 2nd Repair Option otherwise known as an Upgrade in Place. Select your install directory and your systems files will be replaced with the orginals from the CD. Your Registry and all settings will be untouched. Apply all patches and Services Packs when setup has completed.
