What I did say was that MS is responsible when third-party applications break the OS

And I said that MS is not responsible when 3rd party applications break the OS. The responsibility falls on the company that wrote the code. MS is not responsible for Norton products nor is Norton responsible for MS operating systems...

So if I get infected by a virus because of an undiscovered vulnerability in, say, Winsock, Microsoft is not responsible and should just wait until the virus writers stop writing viruses?

No serious OS takes this attitude, not even Windows.

We can't really blame Microsoft for releasing a "crap" because there is no way for them to make sure that this Service Pack they release will be 100% compatible with everyone. There are way too many different kind of computers out there and none of them are the same.

At least they still do their job patching the holes when they find out the bugs and problems. Don't worry, if they make it, they will fix it.
