Unable to install SP2

The permissions on your system should be:

Administrators = Full Control

SYSTEM = Full Control

I set these permissions to Full Control, rebooted, and SP2 installed successfully.

I checked several of the registry keys referenced in the log files, but the permissions were already set.

Quick thought I'll look into when I get home. TB, have you used the "immune" feature of Spybot Search & Destroy? I'm wondering if that is what locked the registry.

Hi similar error with me too.

I was not present when XP tried to install....had to leave the pc DL overnight and seemed to have done the deed when I was asleep.

Looks to me like it tried to install twice

No idea at all what it means other than I waited about a day for it to DL to no avail.

I DID have Spybot S&D active at the time with immunize. On the same level (I think) I also had SpywareBlaster activated too.

Are the SP2 files still on my PC somewhere? Wouldn't mind disconnecting from net, rebooting without the spyware killers active and trying to install SP2 again.

This is a fresh XP install of two days old on a new freshly formatted and partitioned HDD. Did run checkdisc and all seemed OK (thought results were only flashed up for about 1/2 second!)

Only I was on the PC as administrator of something (you know..with max rights to tinker)
