Desktop Resolution

Recommended Posts

:) First off my CD is going great. Just a few loose strings i need to tie up. Quick question: I can't seem to find the topic about the desktop resoultion when the computer first boots to the Xp desktop. the part where you can have XP adjust the resoultion. Any takers?

Thanks in advance!

[Display]
   XResolution=1024
   YResolution=768
   BitsPerPel=16
   VRefresh=60
   AutoConfirm=1
   ConfigureAtLogon=1

Having that in winn.sif should help. You're welcome to post back about any further issues ("loose ends" :)) you have.

Yes, that's where it is. But it sets the screen-res to 800x600 by default, and then asks you for permission if that was okay with you (if non-automated). If you had set the display settings in winnt.sif, (as above) it will automatically set the res. without prompting.

Now, there's a third point of problem, where the desired res. won't be set, and you'll login at 640x480 - that's when windows can't find the drivers for your display.

So, if your display drivers are integrated (OEMpnpDrvrsPath method), and you used all of the below entries, and you're sure your hardware can take the display setting you have specified in winnt.sif, you'll see it (screen resize) being done automatically without any prompting.

[Display]
  XResolution=1024
  YResolution=768
  BitsPerPel=16
  VRefresh=60
  AutoConfirm=1
  ConfigureAtLogon=1
