gabriel_buc Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 I'm glad that everything cleared up.Anyway, any of you official beta-testers managed to find out WHY that RTM string is present ? As far as I know none of the M$ products (well except SP2) contain that string in the version.
visaversa Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Not quit, windows server 2003 does have it to...No idea why they left rtm in the string
prathapml Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 if it said RC insteadRC is "Release Candidate".WHY that RTM string is presentWell now....That's a simple thing ain't it?It's been stamped with RTM string because it is called the RTM, because it *IS* the RTM... LOL, quite funny actually, but the logic goes something like that.
gabriel_buc Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 I found in the registry where the version string is:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]"Build"="2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158"I tried to edit this string, but it doesn't keeps the modification. After I log off or restart the original strings apears again.Anyone know why can't I modify this string ???
MHz Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 RTM is Release to Manufacture. RTM means that it is a final version for pressing to CD? Is any further confusion in the meaning? RTM is final!!!
gabriel_buc Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 THERE IS NO CONFUSION AT ALL !!!!!I just asked why can't I modify that string in the registry I found in the registry where the version string is:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]"Build"="2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158" I tried to edit this string, but it doesn't keeps the modification. prathapml Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 No closure of thread needed just now.... so carry on.And as for that registry value, maybe that gets re-created after looking up the version of the kernel at every boot-up, don't really know for sure.
