Zip files listed as "folders" on 2003

Featured Replies

Hi all,

there is a *very annoying* (to me, anyway) feature in Windows 2003's explorer: the automatic "folder view" of .zip archives. I really *don't* need that whatsoever, and in directories where there are a lot of .zip files, it can take quite a while just to list the directory's content!

Is there any way of disabling this "feature"?

Much appreciated, thanks!

I find this annoying also; fortunately it's rather easy to disable it.

(1) Go to Start, Run, and type regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll

(2) To disable the feature for cab files also type regsvr32 /u cabview.dll

(3) Install WinRAR or whichever program you prefer and associate zip files with it.

If for some reason you wish to re-enable this feature just run the commands again without the /u.

Thanks!!

I just had to re-enable .zip files association from within WinZip after that (well, WinZip even suggested me to do it when I launched it, so that was really easy: didn't have to reinstall it or anything).

Just some follow-up: unregistering this DLL did work (for a while) but the **** thing came back on its own, and I have no idea why... I had to unregister it once again (and I'm suspecting I will have to do that quite often).

That said, I noticed annoying bugs in that vein with the "explorer". Some folder settings would change on their own for no apparent reason every once in a while (file view, columns...).

well i installed winrar and it did solved the problem. i thinl winrar is better than winzip. hehehehehe.
