You might be having an active desktop element as a wall paper - change your wallpaper, and see that there's nothing else looking wrong in display properties. Try re-booting.

I rebooted twice and I changed the desktop a few times since then trying to see if I could get it to move, nothing works :)

Try temporarily killing the explorer process (go to task manager > processes tab> right-click on explorer.exe and select end process tree, and click "Yes). Then try restarting explorer (task manager>file>new task>type in explorer, press enter).

Download the file on this page. It will remove "Common Tasks" from the desktop.

Or you can merge this into the registry:

Why would you want to get rid of desktop sidebar? It's a great program.

Anyway, you should just be able to kill the process using the task manager, then uninstall the program normally (or delete the program directly). If you can't stop the process for some reason, try using CopyLock.

That's not a a 'side bar' program that can be killed. It's the Common tasks option that can be enabled in explorer windows. Not sure how it happens on the desktop.
