exchange 2000 issues

anyone ever experience this? im running 2000 server w/ active directory and exchange 2000. i have a user who went on vacation for 2 weeks so i set up her out of office auto reply. now when an external email account emails her address (external meaning not from within our company or domain), they do not receive the auto reply message. Only when someone from within emails her will the auto reply come up. To test further I set up auto reply on my own email and sure enough, same result...inside gets auto reply, outside does not. any suggestions???
