Slipstream Install Problems

Recommended Posts

I followed the guide (and somewhat understood it) to slipstream all the xp updates into the install.

i boot up with the cd and windows begins to install. At around the point where the updates should be installed (13 minutes remaining) i get an error box pop up that states that a wrong syntax was used and it lists several things :

/n

/r

etc kinds of syntax commands.

i hit cancel or whatnot and xp installation continues and it normally would.

is there something written wrong in my svcpack.inf file ? i am guessing so because it seems when installation attempts to open this "chain of installs" something is not quite right.

any suggestions?

thanks

i tried the xp hotfix slipstream again last night using XPCREATE (which works so great and saves so much time)

i still get the same popup box during the gui installation, but it seems to have worked.

i checked windows update and had only 4mb of updates rather than the usual 30. tonight i am going to add in the 4mb of new updates to the i386 folder and burn a new cd. hopefully that will work.

whoever created xpcreat (forgot his name) thanks.....it helps so much for somewhat novice users like me !!!

sorry solidasrock i did notice killer bees question but i dont make it to this site every day and i also deleted my first attempt with editing the svcpack.inf file because it wasnt working. when i found xpcreate and it did everything for me i didnt bother to edit the files anymore.

again i get this error after using xpcreate but like i said, it must work because i dont have as many updates to install after using it.

i will try to write down what the error box said and post it on here as soon as i can.

ok i found the note i had written the error down on.

invalid program argument specified.

then it lists several thigns as : /i /u / r /z /n with different arguments with them if i remember.

aslo the update Q832483 (data access components) pops up in the gui part and you have to manually click on the next and then no to the restart question.

again it seems to be working as when i went to windows update there were only 4mb of updates instead of 30.

so i guess if its not that serious i'll stop complaing and just use it that way. i was hoping someone would have an idea. sort of sucks that the "unattend" install requires quite a few input points and next bottons.

thanks

MDAC - Requires different switch. Do not use this syntax directly in svcpack.inf. You can create a batch file to call out that syntax from svcpack.inf, or do it from GuiRunOnce:

As outlined in the Technet article, install using:

xxx_Q832483_MDAC_X86.EXE /C:"dahotfix.exe /q /n" /q

where xxx is your language version.

Q832483 (13th January 2004)

Buffer overrun in an MDAC function could allow code execution

Download - 1.99 MB

i use search at Q832483
