shades Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 After upgrading to XP, I have been receiving the following message:"The page you are trying to view has an incorrect address and cannot be displayed. Please try another page."This message appears on the Help and Support Center. Why is this happening and what can be done to correct it?--shades
Treeman Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 Hi Shades,A little more info and we will have a better understanding of your experience. When you go to help, and try to open the web page, what is the destination address? Is your system an oem product, or one you built?Treeman
shades Posted July 11, 2004 Author Posted July 11, 2004 The message happens when I first log onto to XP. I don't even have to visit a web site to get this message. I am now also getting a message about McAfee Security Center not being compatible with XP. It advises me to uninstall and reinstall it. I tried that, but XP won't let me uninstall McAfee. I guess I should have uninstalled it before loading XP. Do I need to uninstall XP and take care of certain issues and reinstall it? If there is something I can do without having to do that, please let me know.--shades
Treeman Posted July 11, 2004 Posted July 11, 2004 Shades,Sounds to me like this was an upgrade from ME or Win98 gone wrong. Is it within your knowledge base technically, to do a fresh install of XP? If not, can you get a friend to help you gather XP drivers for your hardware, change the boot order to CD in the bios, let the XP disk format your h. drive & install it'self?Your computer will run faster with a fresh install=less problems. If your still having problems, just post back and someone will be glad to help you out.Treeman
shades Posted July 13, 2004 Author Posted July 13, 2004 Thanks for the info. I will see what I can do with some help, of course. If there is any other issue, I will be sure to return. Shades
