BradBo
I have a dell computer with a dvd drive and a dvd burner drive. Neither one will read cds or dvds. I did a system restor and uninstalled both drives. they then worked for about two hours. After that they stopped reading the discs again. I tried the same thing and it didn't work a second time. What should I try?
WoRdUp48
I'd first of all go and give dell a call. They usually are known for good customer support...they should be able to fix your problem. Then again, I'd assume you would use this option as your first choice...so maybe its not under warranty? Anyway, that still may help, Dell is usually pretty good.If you don't want to do that, a good format should do the trick....just backup your data. If you have a good backup routine, a reformat reinstall is relatively painless!
DiscardME
Also go into your BIOS, (F2 on Dell I believe), and restore default settings. Go into your device manager and check your DMA modes on the IDE drive channels. Set them to DMA mode. PIO is sometimes used and can impact drive operation.Call Dell. You may have a faulty mobo.Hope that helps
