hitman2010 Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 Somebody help please.Currently running XP, drive just stopped other day. Won't boot (getting absolutely NOTHING on screen - sometimes very lonely blip at top left of screen). The VERY annoying voice enabled on MB states "Your harddisk may have a problem". Of course, she says it in a very snooty tone. Have somewhat determined that I have corrupted MBR. Does anyone know of a fix? I am NOT going to send it to data recovery service place for $1000 and up! I'm looking for inexpensive (free is best lol) program to fix it. I already have a new drive running and can use it to Master/Slave. Network Director where I work says I can buy EXACT similar drive, use latex gloves, open drive and transfer platters to new drive, bake in oven, and, well...................it makes sick to think. I have valuable info on crashed drive.Hitman
Datalore Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 If it's the Master Boot Record that's corrupted, you can boot off of a Windows XP CD, hit R to enter Recovery Console, and type "fixmbr". Then type "fixboot C:" or whatever drive it is.There are also some third party tools from Norton and the like, but with a problem like this the WinXP cd worked just fine.
