iMic Posted December 22, 2025 Posted December 22, 2025 (edited) I'm archiving a bunch of historical Microsoft updates, device drivers and software packages at the moment, and I'm trying to find one in particular - the download version of the Microsoft IntelliType Pro 1.2 keyboard software for Windows Millennium Edition. The file name is itp12eng.exe, and it was available for download from Microsoft's keyboard website (microsoft.com/keyboard) between 2000 and 2002 or so. Unfortunately the Internet Archive Wayback Machine didn't grab any of these, I get almost no hits on any of the search engines I've tried, two hits in FTP searches but the FTP servers they point to (ftp.pcf.pl and ftp.mustek.co.za) are both long gone. I found the 1.2 installer on a CDROM image available in the Internet Archive's catalogue, but that version attempts to install Internet Explorer at the same time, which is something that the download version of the bundle didn't do. So far I've managed to archive the other IntelliPoint, IntelliType and Sidewinder software bundles, but this one particular one has been impossible to track down so far. What makes this more complicated is that version 1.2 was specifically for Windows Me - Microsoft continued to distribute version 1.1f for Windows 95/98 around the same time, but that fails with an error when attempting to install on Millennium. I'm sure it can be made to work, but for the sake of completing this archive, I'd like to track down the original file. If anyone has a lead on where to find it, or has it backed up on one of their hard drives, I would love to get ahold of it. Edited December 22, 2025 by iMic Added FTP and IA Info
ABCDEFG Posted December 23, 2025 Posted December 23, 2025 (edited) I found the Italian version. https://web.archive.org/web/20010810133157/http://msvaus.www.conxion.com:80/download/internkeybdpro/Install/1.2/WinMe/it/itp12ita.EXE and english version of Intelli Point/Type 1.1 https://web.archive.org/web/20040410203216/http://download.microsoft.com/download/internkeybdpro/install/1.1/win98/en-us/itproeng.exe The links for the English version of 1.2 are dead unfortunately. https://web.archive.org/web/20000817033821/http://www.microsoft.com/KEYBOARD/download/pc/install_1.2.htm https://web.archive.org/web/20011117165248*/http://download.microsoft.com:80/download/internkeybdpro/Install/1.2/WinMe/en-us/itp12eng.EXE Version 2.22 should work in win me because it works in win98 https://web.archive.org/web/20050712143156/http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/1/b/31b2ffcf-39b2-4f09-9540-f2d830b50930/ITP2_22EngALLMsi.exe Edited December 23, 2025 by ABCDEFG
iMic Posted December 23, 2025 Author Posted December 23, 2025 (edited) Pretty much as I discovered - I checked the three main Microsoft mirrors (mssjus, mschus and msvaus) with port 80 specified but had no hits on the Wayback Machine there either. 2.22 certainly does work on Millennium edition, and that's in the archive already, as is v1.1 for 95/98. If I could just find 1.2 English for Millennium, it would complete the set. In any case, I'll have a look at that Italian version as well, just in case the installer files can be used somehow. iMic Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 (edited) So for anyone else that finds this thread, thanks to ABCDEFG finding the Italian version of the installer, and through comparing them side-by-side, I've worked out that the installer contained in the WinMe folder on the IntelliType Pro 1.2 CD on the Internet Archive is the same as the installer that would have been contained in the itp12eng.exe self-extracting archive, albeit with only the ENG folder, and only "0009" in the setupdir folder (only the English language program files and _Setup.dll). All other files appear to be exactly the same. I tested the Italian version of the installer on Windows Me and even the downloadable versions have the Internet Explorer check. If IE 6.0 is installed, setup incorrectly prompts the user to upgrade to Internet Explorer 5. Choosing to install Internet Explorer during setup then displays the same warning about inserting the IntelliType Pro 1.2 CD as the CD-ROM distributed version does. So it appears Microsoft just stripped the CD-ROM version installer down to each individual language, packed it in a self-extracting WinZip executable, and sent it out the door. While it would be good to find itp12eng.exe anyway, just for the sake of completion, at least we know the IntelliType Pro v1.2 software for Windows Millennium Edition isn't lost.
