Office 2024 does not look for new mail

I am running Microsoft Office 2024. The Outlook program does not look for new mail even though I have it set to do so every 10 minutes. If I click the SEND / RECEIVE button it gets the new mail, or if I click one of the other folders like Send, trash etc and then click back on my INBOX, it will get the new mail.  I have also done a long repair on the internet, no better.  Any suggestions ??
