ND22 Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 (edited) Hello and Merry Christmas everyone! I am trying to update one of my retro computers using Legacy update. I have used it before and it worked just fine until now - including earlier this year on a different system. Note that this particular system has all the requirements needed to install every single XP update: It has a CPU with SSE3 instruction set, plenty of ram and only Windows is installed, a software for hardware monitoring and the drivers, nothing else. However I encountered a particular error that prevents Windows from installing any update and displays the message: kernel32.dll is in use by another application! Error code can be seen in the screenshot. Note that this error appears also when I try to install standalone updates in offline mode. It seems that Google has "forgotten" all useful pages about XP and display all kinds of nonsense so it is practically useless. Any idea about this error and how it can be resolved?
