Paging file issues

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to set no paging file by default. My installs are always on machines with 512MB of RAM or more and I never have any need of virtual memory. I've searched through the forums but have not been able to find an answer to this.

Thanks in advance,

AmigaFan.

hi amigafan,

be carful with paging file,

I have 1024Mb RAM and some apps crash w/o paging file so

I think it's not a good idea to do not use paging file (some games like C&C Generals)

however you can find the paging file parameters in the following key (if u don't know it)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]

  • Author

Which values need to be changed and what parameters should they have?

I don't know really which one but u can do that :

save the key

make a modif within the standard method (computer properties)

change only the pagefile settings

reboot

goto registry

save the key again

and compare the two files

You'll see a difference

I think however the good one is the pagingfile REG_MULTI_SZ parameter

but I don't know what to put in manually (never tested this)

try in VMware or vortual PC and you'll see
