Hi all,

finally after many searchs and trys i found how to enable the Quick Launch with the parameters you want.

First, on a newest installation, make your own shortcuts, size the taskbar as you want, enabling the Quick Launch.

then export the whole key :

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop]

including the two parameters

toolbars and TaskbarWinXP

use regedit with this .reg during your installation (i didn't test during gui install but during the runonceex install at first logon with a user so i think it works only for current user

maybe it can work using [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop]

remember :

this registry tweaks define only size and position of the taskbar, quick launch and all aditionals toolbar you created (see thumbnail) for the shortcuts, you have to put them in your Quick launch folder and/or in the default user quick launch if you want it for new users.

Note about testing the .reg :

You can't test it in normal session (just after export the key for example) because explorer.exe is running and it permanently update registry for this parameter.

The test I did (working  ) is the following :

1. export the key

2. run regedit.exe yourfile.reg (without the /s parameter)

3. let regedit give you the question do you want import......blah blah. but don't answer now

3. kill all your explorer.exe process using task manager

4. before explorer come back (it always come back automaticaly) click on the yes button for regedit.

5. see the result your settings are now enabled..... :)

I did sevarals tests with differents positions and sizes and it works on my machine.

see the image bellow, do you see the blank space between the icons, it's because in left I have the Quick Launch and in right the tool bar is a shortcut to my

documents and settings\all users\start Menu\programs\avg 7.0 folder (containing for shortcuts)

Hope this help someone...

Problem is, I'm trying to automate the setup and have specific programs needed in the build. The goal is no user interaction until the very last screen before you tell the build to sysprep the machine...

I import my [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop] key during the t-12 step

it works fine for me.

I am already doing that to get it turned on, I'm still struggling with getting applications into the bar automatically. I'm considering moving some files into default user\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

or try $OEM$\$Doc\Default User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
