Win XP with Hyperthreading performance

Got my new p4 3.0 w/HT and was wondering before do a new install of XP is there any special items that helps improve performance?

I read something about settings a pagefile on a different partition to get better performance.

Let's hear from the experts! :)

There's about 30% performance to be gained from having HT enabled. There are certain apps, such as 7zip which have a multi-threading feature so it makes use of the HT processor to compress faster.

I've found HT to cause more trouble than good in my experience. Some applications such as ABC BitTorrent and SoulSeek (and even GTA:VC) have a tendancy to hang/crash, whereas with HT disabled they run perfectly fine.

There's also an Issue with XP SP1 and Hyper threading. They never made a hotfix for it. but should be fixed in SP2.

Might explain some crashes.

Since I upgraded to a HT enabled P4 - XP has really come into a league of it's own and especially with some of the applications I run which support hyped threading processes - such as LightWave3D - it's as good as having an entry level, dual processor workstation...especially if you have a GB of good fast memory and a SATA HDD
