Msg Could not find file or one of its dependencies MOM.Implementation

I did quite a lot of purging of excessive amounts  from all my hard drives yesterday and now I get the msg

Could not find file or one its dependencies assembly MOM.Implementation...

when the system (XPSp4) is booted.

Searching, I find that C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\MOM.Implementation is listed with Size 360, Size on disk 0

but C:\Windows\assembly\temp\NU17ELRY4B\MOM.Implementation is listed with Size 106.496, Size on Disk 106.496

I also find the same installation on several other disks but with the correct size of the file.

Attempts at copying a new file to the C-drive have been unsuccessful, but maybe i should try some more - or is the missing file not a problem?
