XtremeMaC Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 Hi there I always see this type of stuff in legend of defrag programsit seems that they take plenty of place in hdd.what are they. how can i get rid of them?they cannot be temp/pagefile/files like that only thing i can think of is the recylce bin's %thing.but i'm not sure.i want to have my system dll's exe's on the first part of the hdd..norton's disk stuff was able to place the dlls (or at least said to be)i'm using diskeeper.how can i lower those reserved stuff? what are they? how can i place the dll's exe's etc's ..Thanks
rustycaps Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 I've noticed that as well, using Speed Disk, where I have it set to have all dll and exe files at the beginning of the drive (using \**\*.dll and \**\*.exe), and ends up with a space at the start for system files. I'd tried changing recycle bin/norton protection settings, deleting temp/prefetch files, but it still stays there. I think I managed to get rid of it by having the \program files\**\*.* line in the files at start section too.
Ausmith1 Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 That's actually reserved space for the NTFS MFT (Master File Table). You can read all about it hereHow NTFS Reserves Space for its Master File Table (MFT)
XtremeMaC Posted March 27, 2004 Author Posted March 27, 2004 i hate it when i don't get the reply notification but hey thanks for the info...at least now i know that i cannot decrease it and it doesn't take up space....
