cmn Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 I hope someone can lend me a helping hand in enabling me to integrate two errant ‘hotfixes’ [com_microsoft.Jscript_ win2K_XP_56_6003 (JS56nen.) and ENU_Q832483_MDAC_x86] I am unable to corral into my bootable disc despite my repeated attempts using different methods. I tried adding them both through (1)Hotfix.cmd in Cmdlines.txt, and in(2) SVCPACK (EXE+Cat+Latest Qchain.exe) +Svcpack.inf ([Delete old > create New with [VERSION] correctly filled [setupData] ,[ProductCatalogsToInstall with js56nen.cat], and [setupHotfixesToRun] with JS56NEN.exe /Q: A /R: N and Qchain.exe and correctly adding the binaries under [Files] in DOSNET.Inf .I also tried adding either or both in (3) [GuiRunOnce] placed at the bottom of Winnt.Sif and nothing I tried, seemed to help. For the past several weeks I have been trying to make a Win2kSP4 Integrated Bootable DVD Disc with the following on it.1. Post- SP4 Critical and Security Updates (17)2. 7Windows 2000 Recommended updates (7)3. Internet Explorer 6SP14. DirectX9.0b5. WMP9Series6. MSJava3805 and then updating it to MSJava38107. SunJavaVM8. MSN Messenger6.1.02079. Adobe Acrobat 6 Full 10. Adaware6.0 11. Nero 6 Platinum12. Office XP –SP3 with Alternate User Input (KB832668) updateI have been able to make a Bootable DVD with all but two of the “hotfixes” which refuse to install. First time I tried the SVCPAC+ SVCPACK.INF DOSNET method as described by MSKB and elaborated and clarified by sevearl experts in this Forum. After renaming (8.3 Format), and Expanding the Downloaded Critical Update files initailly downloaded to SVCPACK, I added Cat files to the SVC Pack and left the original Exe file and added the new (Mar2003) Qchain.exe to it. The Binaries were added to i386 folder and deleted those files originally in the i386 which the added binaries were to replacing. Deleted SVCpack.in in the i386 and created a new one with all the items like [version] etc and under [ProductCatalogsToInstall] listed the Q######.Cat and under [Hotfixes ToRun] the Q######.exe with the correct swiches depending upon so called type 1 and type2 classification. only 4 hotfixes out of 17 could be installed this way.Next time I tried the cmdlines.Txt method when I could install 15 hotfixes and all the other applications listed above but JS56nen.exe and Q832483 failed to install. Later I tried these two Separately and together both in SVCPACK method as a batch file with Start /Wait %systemdrive% method .After reboot when I go to Windows Update I found these two Critical Updates are always needed. If I place them in $OEM$\$1\Winapps\Hotfixes along with Hotfix.cmd and then include Hotfix.cmd entry showing the correct path in Cmd.txt (placed in $OEM$) I can just click the Hotfix.cmd copied to Winapps on the target HDD after the installation and the installation of the included Hotfix (es)will occur instantaneously. I am wondering, unlike the other hotfixes listed, which are automatically and silently installed, why these two files are ignored during the setup and why GuiRunOnce does not trigger the installation of Q832483.I will appreciate your help/input and will be glad to provide any other clarification /additional information if required to assist me.Thanks in advanceCMN
cmn Posted March 26, 2004 Author Posted March 26, 2004 Thank you lauredd and GreenMachine for your replies. In my next project of creating a Bootable DVD-ROM with Win2kSP4 with Hotfixes and other Applications, I will give XPCREATE a try and post my experinece. I was hoping to get some other easier ways to incorporate just the two Updates, the MDAC Security Patch KB832483 and the JScript 5.6 Security Patch for Windows 2000 and XP without altering the rest of the setup in my current project.Once again Thanks a Million.
