mikee
For some reason, my computer thinks I have 2 copies of Windows XP on it. When I turn it on it asks me to Please select the operating system to start: Then it lists Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition twice. The 1st one won't boot but the 2nd one will. If I try and boot using the 1st choice, I get the message: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dllAnyone know how I can remove this 1st version of XP so that I don't have to select the 2nd option everytime I turn on the computer???Thanks
Aaron
You need to edit your boot.ini file to remove the first entry. This file is hidden, so typing C:\Boot.ini from the Start > Run box will open it in Notepad. If you're unsure, paste the contents of boot.ini in your next reply, and we'll do it for you
hoTy3k
search in c:\ the boot.bak file ... and delete boot.ini and rename boot.bak in boot.ini
