Is it possible to remove "My Computer" and "Control Panel&

Featured Replies

Is it possible to remove "My Computer" and "Control Panel" with a windows 7 customizer like RT lite og 7customizer? The point is to create a very restricted windows where only the office pack will be available.

You may be able to use Group Policy to restrict access to Control Panel. In this TechNet library resource you will see that table 7.3 lists some of the Group Policy settings that affect Control Panel. For example, if you wanted to restrict access to all Control Panel programs you would find the settings to disable control panel in the following location: Local Computer Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu & Taskbar.

Depending on what exactly you want to restrict in My Computer you may find this TechNet forums thread helpful if you intend to prevent access to the drives listed in My Computer.

This wouldn’t “remove” these components from the system as they are a part of Windows but it would restrict access to each component’s features based on a user’s associated group.
