eristic1 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Greetings,I have two different methods of installing Windows XP and Windows 7 and was trying to find a way to make them work together.Currently, I have a Windows XP unattended installation which I've applied to my computer. I've used diskpart to shrink the partition and create a second one. I'd like to use a Windows 7 image (.wim) and apply it to the new partition. I recognize that the Windows XP won't refer to the Windows 7 installation and vice versa. How would I go about applying the Windows 7 wim and still allowing for a dual-boot system.I'm not sure what to edit; the bootmanger for XP or do I need to apply BCDedit in a special way?(just a note: The Windows 7 wim has the extra boot partition per usual.)Any help would be appreciated.
maxXPsoft Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 when you install win 7 normally it will pickup the xp and allow dual boot. remember that the boot part will be on the first drive like in your case xp so can't uninstall it later without problems.too much hassle so I went full 7. 7 has the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC on Pro and above
eristic1 Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 Thanks Max!Ok, I just had a thought. What if I try and install 7 from the dvd and once it completes, wipe it and install 7 from the .wim I've created. Would that create the necessary references? Or would the 7 install .wim not properly be identfied?Thoughts?
