pjmelect Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 On Windows 7 IE9 64 bit how do you change the search engine from Bing to say Google? I can change it on Windows 7 32 bit easy enough but not on 64 bit Windows. I understand that this is because you need a 64 bit activeX script to do it but where do I get a 64 bit active script from?
myselfidem Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 (edited) I have no trouble with Windows 7 64 bit Ediiton.I do like the image hereChoose: Tools | Internet Options | Programs | ModulesYou can change the order or remove Bing! Edited June 17, 2011 by myselfidem
pjmelect Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Yes I know this I can do it on 32 bit windows fine, but I can’t get Google to be an option to select on 64 bit Windows at all.
myselfidem Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 (edited) Have you checked if Google is activated?Useful infos about IE9:http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/ Edited June 18, 2011 by myselfidem
pjmelect Posted June 18, 2011 Author Posted June 18, 2011 I can’t get Google to appear at all. I am a computer repair engineer and a customer asked me to change the search engine on Windows 7 64bit IE9 and to my embarrassment I couldn’t do it, so I tried to change the IE9 search engine on some other computers I have at the shop. On 32 bit Windows 7 I have no problem in changing the search engine but on 64 bit Windows 7 I can’t do it. I must be doing something stupid but I don’t know what.
myselfidem Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 (edited) Yes, it seems there is some problems, in fact also for me...because I can't add a new search engine, the new open window for Searching freeze and I see only to pin Web pages!?!But I use this "workaround" to add more search engines and works fine:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en-en/default.mspxYou can change the location with: See Global Search GuideI hope that can help you!*Edit: It seems the trouble appears with the last update for IE9, Maybe, because I have not this problem before with IE9 (32-bit or 64-bit on my computer 64-bit)!Image Search engines added with "workaround" Edited June 18, 2011 by myselfidem
