xpmonster
i have netbook with 4gb ssd for windows installation. i need to reinstall it so the documents and settings is on main hard drive (100gb) and program files are also on main drive. got my xp installation, and I extracted iso into actual folder with winrar, searched for WINNT.sif i put the following commands under the unattandedgui section: ProfilesDir = D:\ Programfilesdir = D:\ then i took the folder and rebuilt it with imgburn and i got the edited iso to boot. then when installation came, i chose to install on ssd 4 gig, installation was going good, then reboot, error came saying: setup log file corrupt, please provide more information fatal error. and some other error i forget. i tried this with two other copies of windows that i had, but it still doesnt work? how do i modify the windows installation unattanded to change profiles dri and prgoram files dir to different path? i already read the kb article on profiles dir and it didnt help. i got an iso of windows xp.extracted it with winrarlooked at the new folder that was extracted, searched for WINNT.SIFedited with notepad: under the [unattendedgui]i put profilesdir = D:\and programfilesdir = D:\saved itwent to imgburnand i built a iso from the folder againit said i had to get an image from the actual iso, so i mounted the iso(the original one) on a virtual drive, extraced the bootfile and added it into my new projectand then i made the new iso using iso9660(cant remember exact iso format) and jolietburned the new iso on to discbooted it in the netbookreformatted ssd and main drivereparitioned unallocated spaceinstalled main windows installation to ssd (since i had the winnt edited im thinking that it would place programfiles and profiles on the main hard drive (D:\)did the normal installrebootedgot error setup failed to install product catalogs.then i tried using this: http://www.ntfs.com/iso_image_edit.htmand still got the error.i tried an installation without modifying it and it worked.i think that the error is due to the way that i extract and rebuild the iso to edit it..here is the winnt.sif:[Data]AutomaticUpdates="No"Autopartition=0MsDosInitiated=0UnattendedInstall="Yes"[unattended]UnattendMode=DefaultHideUnattendSwitch="No"OemPreinstall="No"OemSkipEula="Yes"ComputerType="Standard PC", RetailFileSystem=*WaitForReboot="No"NoWaitAfterTextMode=1NoWaitAfterGUIMode=1DriverSigningPolicy=IgnoreNonDriverSigningPolicy=IgnoreHibernation="No"ProgramFilesDir="D:\Program Files"CommonProgramFilesDir="D:\Program Files\Common Files"[setupData]OSLoadOptionsVar="/noexecute=alwaysoff"[systemRestore]DisableSR=1CreateFirstRunRp=0[GuiUnattended]TimeZone=130OEMSkipRegional=1OemSkipWelcome=1ProfilesDir="D:\Documents and Settings\"[Components][userData]ProductKey="my key"[RegionalSettings]LanguageGroup=1SystemLocale="0409"UserLocale="0409"UserLocale_DefaultUser="0409"InputLocale="0409:00000409"InputLocale_DefaultUser="0409:00000409"[Networking]InstallDefaultComponents="Yes"[WindowsFirewall]Profiles=WindowsFirewall.TurnOffFirewall[WindowsFirewall.TurnOffFirewall]Mode=0[identification]JoinWorkgroup="WORKGROUP" Edited May 6, 2011 by xpmonster
allen2
You most likely created the iso the wrong way but to be sure you can try installing with this iso in a Virtual Machine. You also try nlite as it usually works very well and can do what you're trying to do and as you're installing on a small drive, there are also in nlite way to remove unneeded things. kali
i tried nlite but it gave me error during windows installation:setup has no more files in i386installation failed E:\i386\asmsN-lite is best solution for your problem. Visit msfn N-lite forum to know more about nlite. Download Latest N-lite. It works good. You can't delete any file from i386 folder. If do so your setup process will be corrupted. allen2
Nlite work correctly when you use a clean source (i.e. an original untouched CD or iso).

allen2
Don't extract it with winrar, you can mount the iso with a cd emulator before launching nlite.
