Hi everyone,

Just (finally) moving from XP to Win7. I've always installed Windows unattended, setting unattended.txt so that the entire OS is installed under c:\Win (or whatever other root I choose in the SIF), ie. there are no other folders created in the root dir, and profiles, program files, etc are all inside c:\Win.

I like it this way because it keeps things clean, and I can have multiple Windows installations in my system partition (eg. just change the SIF to point to c:\Win2 for the second installation), which often comes in handy.

But I can't see a way to do this in unattended.xml for Win 7.

Is it even possible to install Windows 7 to something other than c:\Windows ?

I don't think it's possible. The wim image has the folder named to Windows.

The only way I'm aware of that allows you to maintain/select your own drives is if Win7 is installed from within XP in a dual/multi-boot configuration. I know because I originally had XP Pro and XP Pro x64 installed prior to upgrading to Win7 and somewhere, way back when, when I asked about dual/multi-booting and already partitioned hard drives I got an answer that to preserve drive letters the user would have to install Win7 from within XP.

I know that's not what you asked about but I've not heard of any other method. Also, if this procedure is used and then XP is removed and dual/mulit boot is no longer required I have no idea as to what happens to the drive letters previously established.
