Paint Desk version ignored

on XP SP3 (+ post SP3 patches)

i have set in registry

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop]
"PaintDesktopVersion"=dword:00000001

it simply refuse show it

any particilur reason ?

Editing the default profile does not update pre-existing accounts. It can only affect accounts created after the edit. Try creating a new user account and login with it. Then report back.

For each existing account you should also make the change here. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop, if you don't like it, the only other way is to delete your entire user folder so that it gets re-created using the modified default profile. Much easier to HKCU it IMO
