maxXPsoft Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I've had that /grant *S-1-5-32-544:F TakeOwnership method here for quite awhile and assumed it worked although had never put it to test. Was mounting an image and power went out so I ended up with corrupt Mount dir. Done all the Imagex and dism cmds to no availTried the TakeOwnership method with /grant *S-1-5-32-544:F and then tried every combination of icacls/cacls I could think of. Even booted into Safe mode with Administrator and he could not remove.Started searching and found on Technet where someone used the original TakeOwnership from How To Geek and it worked. That is where you use /grant administrators:FInstalled it and instantly deleted the corrupt Mount Dir NOTICE: You will need to edit these files and replace administrators word for your languageadd-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vistalive and learn
MrJinje Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) don't need to go to all that trouble. Simply delete/recreate the mount directory (after dismount command fails), and after it is deleted, the clean-up wim command will work properly. Taking ownership was not required unless the user (or your application), did not create the "mount" folder. (highly unlikely under your circumstances). Inside of your application, it might be wise to add a sub-routine to detect if the dismount command generates an error, then the sub will delete the mount point, run the cleanup-wim, and re-create the mount folder if needed. again, this is not a take-ownership issue, but a DISM issue. The limitation is that cleanup-wim command does not work until after the mount directory has been deleted. Next time it happens, try it without the take ownership and report back. Or just check the ownership via the Properties > Security > Advanced, you will see what I mean. Edited March 29, 2010 by MrJinje
maxXPsoft Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 nothing worked, I am well versed on dism and icacls. Perhaps this is 64 bit related. How to Geek stuff worked. I'm sticking with that cause the other did not.My stuff is English so /grant administrators:F works. I can see it working in the dos window, the other I never saw anything
bensam56 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) I used vlite to mount win 7 and closed the app in the middle, samething happened and tried to unmount using dism says image is corrupted. Also tried imagex but no luck same error...So this corrupted mounted image wont be saved to WIM. So I deleted the mounted folder and its deleted. The problem is not on *S-1-5-32-544 or on language.... Edited March 29, 2010 by bensam56
maxXPsoft Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 I'm not saying it's language. I said I tried with the takeownership that had the *S-1-5-32-544:F and I never see anything.Using the Geek version I see a Dos box fly by real quick and then I was able to delete. And yes I have UAC offWe all know how screwy permissions is with Vista and later.

Why on earth would someone waste the 3 seconds to open the properties > securities > advanced security permissions to check if it worked or not before posting any assumptions. If they had, they would have known that it was working from the get-go.If checking the actual file ACL is not proof enough, be my guest and use /grant Administrators:F, that method is guaranteed to work on all "english locale" machines. But I am telling you that it is not necessary, the Well-Known SID method works perfectly fine in any language.
maxXPsoft Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 OK, now i get it, you only think it works if you can see it on the screen. Did you even read my first post? No you didn't cause you started talking about using Dism like i'm new to that, its in the first post where i tried all that. How any times must I say I tried the Takeown with S-1-5-32-544 and it failed. there last time, use what you want, I know to keep this in my arsenal.
