can't slipstream SP3 into XP ugrade

I tried to slipstream SP3 into XP upgrade (with SP2) Academic version.

It is 5.1.2600.2180 and volume id VX2PCCP_EN

I get message "Slipstreaming error please report"

I am only trying to slipstream the service pack, no other options.

I previously slipstreamed SP3 into XP OEM with SP2 no problems.

I am running nLite 1.4.9.1 under Windows 2000 SP4

Has anybody else encountered same problem?

Try doing it manually and see what error you get.

EX: SP3.exe /integrate:C:\MYXPSOURCE

jeepster, there are some threads here discussing using Upgrade CDs. Please do some searching. I think at least some have been successful, but the CD for the Windows version being upgraded from is asked for during installation. You are not getting this far. I seem to remember a thread that got around this by copying some of the files/folders (from the old OS) to the new folder before making an ISO. I cannot find that post at this time. We do need more information, so, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

EDIT: Here's the thread, Post #38.

Okay,

attached is the LastSession.ini

nLite also said something about there being old hotfixes which should be removed

before slipstreaming SP3. I chose option to remove the hotfixes before proceeding.

jeepster, thanks for telling us about this little message:

This means that you have started with a previously processed source. I also see you are using Windows 2000 to run nLite to create an ISO for XP. We know people have trouble using Vista and W7 for XP ISOs, so it may also not work under W2000. The problems are mainly associated with integrating an SP. Can you run under XP? Where did you get the source CD? As far as you know, has it been modified by nLite or any other integration program or process? Please post a screen shot of a Windows Explorer view of the CD. Enjoy, John.

the CD looks thus

Volume in drive G is VX2PCCP_EN

Volume Serial Number is 6FBB-B0FD

Directory of G:\

I checked with Microsoft's "How to Tell" page, and it looks like genuine product.

it came from online auction website in a box with folder, booklet etc.

I have used NLITE under Win2000 several times before without hassles.

That was with XP OEM source.

I have heard of a version of XP that was released with a sp2b on it. That SP actually contained a couple of extra hotfixes alongside the normal SP.

After a bit of googling I did find that that disk label IS an SP2b disk.

While it should work fine for your slipstream I would be curious as to which files are in the I386\SVCPACK dir.

Windows XP SP2b CD Labels

Code:
Windows XP Professional (SP2b) Upgrade = VX2PCCP_EN

Further Googling Shows this:

Well, this is the SP2b.

Remember that the SP1a different from SP1? Only the lack of MS Java.

А SP2b [is] different from the SP2 only a KB911164. The reason seems Microsoft lost the lawsuit, the company Eolas over the use ActiveX in IE and has been forced to change the behaviour of the browser (add bothersome hint "Click to activate and use this control" for any ActiveX components).

KB911164 contains files :

browseui.dll

iepeers.dll

mshtml.dll

shdocvw.dll

shlwapi.dll

urlmon.dll

xpsp3res.dll

In fact, it is not needed, since the offset recent cumulative update for IE (KB922760).

jeepster, looks like Kelsenellenelvian has done some good research for you. The only suggestion I have at this time is to use the CD without adding SP3 and see if it works. I assume you have a valid key. You might try direct integration of SP3. You do this by running SP3 in a Command Prompt with the switch /I:full path. Where full path is the path to your folder containing the files/folders from the CD (place in quotes ", if the path contains blanks). Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.
