MysteryMan Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 This is driving me crazy!Have spent past couple of days trying to create a lightweight installation of Windows XP for my eeePC and have been following a step-by-step guide.Works beautifully, apart from not being able to persuade the PC to recognise the disc (DVD) during the boot process.I checked the original CD and this is recognised fine. The disc that nlite creates only has the following files/directories.....I would have expected BOOT.??? or something.Anybody got any ideas what is wrong?
johnhc Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) MysteryMan, how did you create your DVD? Are these all the files on your DVD? What is the total size of the source file? I had a problem when my source file got to 2.6 GB. The solution was to use the Mkisofs for the ISO Engine in the Create Bootable ISO task. And, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.EDIT: Please see this thread. Edited January 2, 2010 by johnhc

I went back into nlite session and burned to a CD-RW (rather than the DVD-RW used previously). When I start up the PC it does, indeed, recognise it and starts the Windows install process! Now, the questions you asked.....The DVD was created by using the 'Burn Direct' option in nliteYes, those are all the files on the DVDThe size of all the files in the directory nlite created/modified is 339 MB (356,315,136 bytes), made up of 3,571 files in 206 foldersI have attached several files. The older pair are for when I tried to burn the DVD-RW and the later 2 are when I burned the CD-RW.LAST_SESSION__205601.02_12.22.50_.INILAST_SESSION.INI Edited January 2, 2010 by MysteryMan
johnhc Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 MysteryMan, quickly, you need to remove the posted Session_u.ini files! These contain your CD key and some other personal information. Quickly! John.

Quickly! John.JohnThanks! I'd just realised that and was about to remove when I saw your message!!!!!!Should be gone now - phew!
johnhc Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 MysteryMan, yep, gone - thanks. Now that your system will boot the CD, are you installing OK? Sometimes, writing at a high speed can cause problems. You need to remove the Tweak "Explorer-Launch folder windows in a separate process" - it exposes a Windows bug, but not your problems. Please let us know where you stand now and if you have any problems. I see nothing obvious in you Last Session. Enjoy, John.
