CD verification fails

Hi. I'm trying to create a XP SP3 with nLite 1.4.9.1 but i am not succeeding.

I copied all the files from the original CD to my hard disk, applied SP2 and then applied SP3, since I'm using Vista and the nLite website says Vista users should streamline SP2 before SP3. For testing purposes, i burned a CD-RW with SP2 only (did not work, see below), and then used the same disc to burn WinXP SP3 (which did not work either).

I did not remove anything from the instalation dir (altho some files seem to be removed by default according to Last Session.ini, like clock.avi), i only made some tweaks. When I tried to install on another computer, it failed to copy some files (such as c949.nls, some fonts, dlls, etc.) while still in the first stage of the installation process.

Then I tried to burn a SP3 CD-RW (using nLite's direct burning functionality again) and ticked the option "Verify". Not to my surprise, verification failed. I tried using a DVD+RW disc (since i did not have another CD-RW) and it also failed. The verification process is failing consistently. Does anybody have any idea? What could be wrong? The XP copy I used? It did not have this problem originally, it only happens to the nlited version. Could it be the service pack streamlining procedure? Or the burning procedure?

Can I verify the files before burning the disc? It would save a lot of time.

Besides, nLite is saving Last Session files in my xp directory. Is this expected behavior?

If you need extra information, just ask. I really need SP3 since the original XP does not install on my computer, please help!

Your CD-RW is probably bad. Try burning to a CD-R and I recommend using ImgBurn instead of the build in burner.

You only need to slipstream SP3 since it contains SP2 already. I believe the only problem when nLiting within Vista is when using VLK keys it will ask for the key during setup.

marcuscf, if you are running nLite under Vista to create an XP ISO, that is probably not going to work, especially if you are adding an SP. I have never used the nLite Verify function after burning, so don't know if that works or not. Sometimes when burning CDs/DVDs, speed can be a problem. Reducing the speed can correct the problem. You did not say why the disk failed. What error message(s) did you get? I would suggest that you run nLite under XP and let us know how you make out. Please post screen shots. In closing, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

EDIT: Did you erase the R/W media first? If not, that may be your verify error.

I will try your suggestions. If you have any other hints, please post!

I guess the CD is bad, because i tried burning something else and it failed. But it is strange, since i tried another disc and it failed too. I hope it's not my drive that has problems...

Solved. I burned a CD-R on another machine with Windows XP. I was afraid i would lose too many CD-Rs trying to make it work (that's why i was using a CD-R), but it worked the first time. Now everything is fine.

Sorry to waste your time with such a stupid problem...

marcuscf, thanks for letting us know. You did not waste our time. Many benefit when problems get solved. Enjoy, John.
