What occured was that I discovered that my 98 machine will not install more then 1000 fonts ( as the internet said ) but to make matters worst it will even count the fonts that is not installed ( meaning on the hard disc itself).

I was reading there is a 64 word size cache or something like that. So the number of FONTS is reflected on that number. Meaning I could hold more fonts by reducing the names of installed FONTS to let say one letter.

However I need to know the name of the font.

Is there is fix or unofficial upgrade for that?

What regestry do I need to edit?

My font progam "Bitstream Font navigator" tells me there is curently 836 installed fonts with over 1100 fonts availible.

win9x keep list of "installed" font in

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Fonts

each of normal, bold, italic, bold+italic variety will takes up an entry.

in normal case, entry on that registry will match existing font files in font folder.

(if the font folder works properly use command prompt to see exacty what files on it).

if the font folder doesn't work as it should ( no 'Install new fonts..' ), editing that registry will affect what font win9x will see.
