Doc Boy
Hey guys,I seem to have a serious problem. It all started with re-installing XP Professional on my Fujitsu Siemens OEM machine. It as an ASUS A8NE FM motherboard in it. I installed the most recent drivers for any device, and they all worked, except for the onboard AC'97 sound chip. So I uninstalled the driver, and tried some more recent versions for the AC97 chip, but none of them worked. At first, the chip was identified as a sound card by the windows audio service, but didn't deliver any sound. After a few more tries and re-installs of the driver, XP didn't even recognize the AC'97 chip as an audio device. The sounds & audio options in the control panel always showed "no audio device" and everything colored grey. Even though the AC97 chip was listed in the device managers list, and the driver declared it as running, no yellow question or exclamation marks shown. The Windows Audio service was started, and its mode was set to automatic, so no problem here. So a mate gave me an old PCI Soundcard (some Terratec with the Aureal Vortex 1 Chip on it, AU8820B2). Same problem here. I got the newest drivers, but still XP didn't recognize it as an audio device. The strangest thing is, that I can hear music now when I test the DirectMusic with dxdiag. But when I test DirectSound I get the error " HRESULT = 0x88780078 (No Driver). It'll be great if someone had some advice for me. I am really in despair!Cheers, DocHere is the Everest Summary:--------[ Summary ]----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Computer: Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional OS Service Pack Service Pack 2 DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c) Computer Name URANUS User Name Henrik Motherboard: CPU Type AMD Athlon 64, 2200 MHz (11 x 200) 3500+ Motherboard Name Asus A8NE-FM (3 PCI, 1 PCI-E x16, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio, LAN, IEEE-1394) Motherboard Chipset nVIDIA nForce4-4X, AMD Hammer System Memory 1024 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM) BIOS Type Award (12/16/04) Communication Port Kommunikationsanschluss (COM1) Communication Port Druckeranschluss (LPT1) Display: Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 6600 (256 MB) 3D Accelerator nVIDIA GeForce 6600 PCI-E Monitor LG F700P [17" CRT] (132863745) Multimedia: Audio Adapter Aureal Vortex 1 (AU8820B2) Audio Accelerator Audio Adapter nVIDIA MCP04 - Audio Codec Interface Storage: IDE Controller NVIDIA nForce4 Parallel ATA Controller IDE Controller NVIDIA nForce4 Serial ATA Controller IDE Controller NVIDIA nForce4 Serial ATA Controller SCSI/RAID Controller AIK7UHBV IDE Controller Disk Drive SAMSUNG SP0411N (40 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/133) Disk Drive WD My Book USB Device (931 GB, USB) Optical Drive _NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG (DVD+R9:4x, DVD+RW:16x/4x, DVD-RW:16x/4x, DVD-ROM:16x, CD:48x/24x/48x DVD+RW/DVD-RW) Optical Drive DVD-16X DVD-ROM BDV316E (16x/48x DVD-ROM) Optical Drive NIX PYF8XUZ85QV SCSI CdRom Device SMART Hard Disks Status OK Partitions: C: (NTFS) 10001 MB (754 MB free) F: (NTFS) 28192 MB (26041 MB free) G: (NTFS) 953867 MB (546814 MB free) Total Size 968.8 GB (560.2 GB free) Input: Keyboard HID-Tastatur Mouse HID-konforme Maus Game Controller Microsoft-PC-Joysticktreiber Network: Network Adapter Hamachi Network Interface (5.189.254.126) Network Adapter NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller - Paketplaner-Miniport (192.168.2.100) Peripherals: Printer An OneNote 2007 senden USB1 Controller nVIDIA MCP04 - OHCI USB Controller USB2 Controller nVIDIA MCP04 - EHCI USB 2.0 Controller USB Device Standard-USB-Hub USB Device USB-HID (Human Interface Device) USB Device USB-HID (Human Interface Device) USB Device USB-HID (Human Interface Device) USB Device USB-HID (Human Interface Device) USB Device USB-HID (Human Interface Device) USB Device USB-Massenspeichergerät USB Device USB-Verbundgerät USB Device USB-Verbundgerät Problems & Suggestions: Problem Disk free space is only 8% on drive C:.Please tell me if you need some more information, I'll give you all you want to know about that system! Sysdll
Using Driver Sweeper or Driver Cleaner in safe mode and deleting all the sound drivers also would be worth a try.
JustinStacey.x
Reinstall again. If no go, your motherboard is dying.
